What is the best after market antenna and why between Diamond SRH320A,
Maldol MH-610, & Comet HT-224 (or is there something else)?

Thank you for taking the time to post your opinions.

I recently purchased a HT-224 to replace the broken original antenna that came with the FA6a. I'm happy with the performance of the Comet on all three bands. Kenwood wanted too much money to replace the original Kenwood antenna. The new one is thin, flexible and stays streight.

I don’t have any experience with Maldol or the Comet, but I can say the
Diamond SRH320A does outperform the stock rubber duckie, at least on 2M and
440 Mhz where I use it. It comes with a rubber washer to fit the base of
the antenna to the radio, which I ended up trimming just a bit to fit it
inside the plastic lip on the radio… it fits nice and tight and pulls in
signals pretty decently. I have no problems hitting the 2M repeater 2 œ
miles from my house at œ watt with it for our weekly nets.

As I posted here before..I too had problems with the original antenna that Kenwood sent with the TH-F6A. As I posted once before, this is my 2nd. one. I was real careful with this one but it is
soo fragile it too succumbed to normal use. I have replaced it with a MFJ skinny dual band like Bob's here it too is just a skinny but flexible wire. I do not think it has
the gain but it does work for hamfests and public service events. Yeah, It doesn't work on 220 but there is no activity within 50 miles of me on that band.
I asked before if other users had similar problems and got some real honest response. It is a wonder that as many of these radios Kenwood sells, that they would not
address the pitiful construction of their "Stock" antenna. Great radio.. good antenna for a short while..

Robert,

I have been a happy Comet HT-224 user for a long time. In my opinion the antenna is a bit more durable than the Maldol. The performance is good on 144 and 440 but it really shines on 220. Mind you this is based on the evidence of my ears and observations and not the use of any high-tech test equipment. Your mileage may vary.

Maldol MH-610 works fine for me. Has gain and is ultra-flexible. I
intended to buy the Comet, but the store owner persuaded me that the
Maldol was both better and cheaper.

Group,

If I remember correctly, I reviewed all three of the antennae mentioned below and the Jetstream JTH2.

I selected based on physical size and various performance reviews. I wanted decent performance on all bands. I was unable to find all the antennae at the local shop so I could not compare them all. I did by the JTH2 and later purchased the SRH320A. The 320A performed a little bit better than the JTH2. If money were no object, I would like to have purchased the HT224 as I understand it might be a better performer on 220. There are a fair number of repeaters in the area and some folks who are tinkering with simplex and experimenting with antenna from base stations.

I have a Maldol MH-610 that I bought a number of years ago when I bought the TH-F6A. It has worked well.
